Regular service is required as refrigerant gas will leak out of the system at a rate of 15 - 20% per year, reducing in efficiency until it stops working altogether. You should run your system at least once a week for a few minutes to avoid component seals failing and leaking.
Fungus and Bacteria can build up in the system causing smells and cause coughing, sneezing, irritated eyes or even lead to ear, nose or throat infections.
